Representatives of Akureyri Hospital Present at the Icepharma Welfare Conference

The Icepharma Welfare Conference took place on 13 January under the theme “The Future Is at Home.” Many of the key pillars of the Icelandic healthcare system were in attendance, including Emilía Fönn Andradóttir, specialist nurse, and Eva Hilmarsdóttir, MSc, registered nurse.

They work at the endocrinology outpatient clinic at Akureyri Hospital (SAk), where they provide follow-up care and outpatient services for individuals with type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes with complex presentations, and insulin-dependent gestational diabetes. They also offer counselling and education both within and outside the hospital.
Emilía and Eva have taken targeted steps in the practical use of technology in patient care, which they presented at the conference. Their presentation was titled “Telehealth Services: Opportunities, Challenges, and the Future of Healthcare at Akureyri Hospital.”
