Representatives from SAk participated in a Action Policy seminar
18th March 2024
A seminar on action policies was held in Húsavík on 9 and 10 March.
The seminar brought together the response representatives in Northeast Iceland, who are involved in the management and operations of the district from Fjallabyggð in the west to Bakkafjörður in the east.
On behalf of Akureyri Hospital, the Director of Human Resources, Erla Björnsdóttir, and the Head of School for Emergency Medical Technicians, Ingimar Eydal, who represent SAk in the Civil Protection Commission in Northeast Iceland, attended the meeting.
Various lectures were held, which included natural hazards in the District, technical issues regarding drones and flow, new emphasis at the Icelandic Tourist Board regarding safety issues in tourism companies. Also, a lecture was held regarding the situation when first responders themselves get into accidents while at work. “It is important that the staff of SAk have in mind the importance of the hospital in the organization of Civil Protection, both in relation to the events that can occur in the vicinity but also because of the role of SAk as a back up hospital for the whole country. SAk needs to be equipped to receive patients from group accidents or other events from anywhere in the country. Then the operations need to be considered differently than everyday and therefore it is important that infrastructure considers how to meet such challenges,” says Ingimar Eydal.
“The participants are generally pleased with the training and consultation platform, which strengthens and links all response units even more closely when it comes to operational and collaborative efforts,” the Facebook page of the Police in Northeast Iceland reads.
