Positive outcomes from the “Let’s get moving” project
25th January 2026
The Let’s get moving project, which aims to encourage patients to be more physically active during their hospital stay, is already beginning to deliver measurable results.

The mobility corners are popular among patients. Kristveig Atladóttir and Jana Björg Róbertsdóttir, physiotherapists, are among those taking part in the Let’s get moving project.
A recent survey shows that more patients are now wearing their own clothes during the day, and the use of the wards’ mobility corners has increased. This indicates a positive shift towards greater activity and patient independence.
“These are very encouraging results that show us how simple actions and encouragement can have a real impact,” says Ragnhildur Jónsdóttir, chief physiotherapist at SAk.
Essential to continue
The next steps of the project will focus primarily on engaging more professional groups, monitoring ongoing developments, and increasing visible reminders for staff as well as for patients and their families. More posters and notices will be displayed, and the project will be highlighted on the hospital’s information screens.
“Staying active during a hospital stay is a shared responsibility for all of us,” says Ragnhildur. “With increased visibility and simple tools, we can further support patients’ recovery, wellbeing, and independence”
