International Nurse's Day is today and is celebrated worldwide. At the Akureyri Hospital, approximately 230 nurses work in a wide range of different jobs. Today's theme is: Our Nurses. Our Future. The Economic Power of Care.

“One of the goals of the International Nurse Day is to raise awareness of the work of nurses and to give them the respect they deserve. Nurses work in all areas of health care and they have a unique professionalism and knowledge. The job is extremely diverse, demanding, but also very rewarding. I am proud to be a nurse and believe that the role and the field of work of nurses will be further strengthened in the near future,” says Erla Björnsdóttir, nurse and Director of Human Resources.
