Moms and Muffins donate nearly ISK 1.7 million to the Maternity Ward
19th August 2025
It was a true muffin feast during the Merchant’s Weekend when Moms and Muffins celebrated their 15th anniversary with an impressive fundraising effort. A total of ISK 1,681,579 was collected, all of which will go directly to the Maternity Ward of Akureyri Hospital, and the representatives of the fundraiser formally presented the donation to SAk yesterday.

Moms and Muffins began in 2010 and have since baked and sold thousands of muffins to guests at the festival Ein með öllu. This year, 2,784 muffins were baked and about 2,500 sold; residents and staff of Hlíð (nursing home) enjoyed the remaining ones.
Gratitude from Akureyri Hospital
Hildigunnur Svavarsdóttir, CEO of Akureyri Hospital (SAk), expressed great gratitude:
“One cannot help but feel deep admiration and thankfulness when looking at the incredible dedication and warmth that Moms and Muffins have brought to the Maternity Ward year after year. This event is not only a beautiful example of the perseverance and determination of those who want to do good, but also an invaluable support for essential services for newborns and mothers at SAk. On behalf of the hospital, I extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in this initiative—both the bakers and the sponsors.”
Ingibjörg Jónsdóttir, Head of the Maternity Ward, added:
“We are endlessly grateful for their tremendous effort, grateful to all supporters, and grateful to everyone who bought delicious muffins and contributed to this fundraiser. It has not yet been decided how we will use these funds, but we will announce it later. A thousand thanks to all.”
Invaluable support
Over these 15 years, Moms and Muffins have raised substantial amounts for the SAk Maternity Ward. The proceeds have, among other things, been used for purchasing equipment and other improvements that strengthen services for mothers and newborns in North Iceland.
