5th December 2025
The Kiwanis clubs Herðubreið in Mývatnssveit, Kaldbakur in Akureyri, Skjöldur in Siglufjörður, Drangey in Sauðárkrókur, Askja in Vopnafjörður, Skjálfandi in Húsavík, and Grímur in Grímsey joined forces to donate a wireless fetal heart rate monitor to the maternity ward at Akureyri Hospital.

Together, these Kiwanis clubs form the Óðinn Division, which most years donates something jointly to support children in the region. The hospital wishes to extend its sincere thanks to the clubs for their generous gift, which will be of great use.
No cables restricting movement
“A wireless fetal heart rate monitor gives expectant mothers greater freedom to move during labor, as there are no cables restricting their movements. It becomes easier for them to change positions, which can have a positive effect on the progress of the birth. The wireless sensors are also waterproof, allowing close monitoring of the baby’s heartbeat when and if the mother wishes to be in the bath,” says Ingibjörg Hanna Jónsdóttir, head of the maternity ward at Akureyri Hospital
