28th May 2026
Hannes Petersen, an ear, nose and throat specialist at Sjúkrahúsið á Akureyri, recently delivered a lecture at the European Congress of Otorhinolaryngology, which is held every two years and is the largest professional congress in Europe in this field. The president of the congress specially invited Hannes to present a lecture on his research in the field of vestibular science, while also recognising his contribution to research in this area.

For many years, Hannes has been involved in research primarily focused on motion sickness and balance disorders among older adults. He has also taken an active role in research conducted by The Icelandic Heart Association over the years. Throughout his career, he has published more than 100 scientific papers.
“It is always particularly rewarding to have the opportunity to meet colleagues and friends from the profession from across Europe and to keep up with the latest developments in research and clinical practice. Receiving recognition for the research work one has carried out over the years is both a great honour and a strong source of motivation. Naturally, one hopes that this research has contributed to greater knowledge and a better understanding that will benefit patients in the future,” says Hannes Petersen.
The congress brought together specialists from across Europe to discuss the latest advances and research in the field of otorhinolaryngology, including balance and hearing research, the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, as well as innovations in technology and clinical treatment.
