A ten-member delegation from Icelandic health authorities has traveled around Scandinavia with the aim of encouraging Icelandic doctors to return home. Ragnheiður Halldórsdóttir, Chief Medical Director, represented SAk on the trip.

It is estimated that around 800 Icelandic doctors are working abroad, most of them in Sweden, while only a small number work outside the Nordic countries. The delegation held presentations on the new collective wage agreements in four cities in Sweden and Denmark.
“We met nearly 100 doctors who have either completed or are in the process of completing their specialist training,” says Ragnheiður Halldórsdóttir, Chief Medical Director at SAk, and adds:
“It was clear that the majority of the doctors who attended are planning to return home in the coming years. There was much greater interest in SAk and Akureyri than I had expected. I believe we will be able to increase the number of specialist doctors and medical fields in the coming years, thereby strengthening our services even further,” says Ragnheiður.
