Congratulations to midwives!
5th May 2024
Today is the day of midwives.
At the Akureyri Hospital there are 21 midwives. To gain the title of midwife you must take a basic nursing education (4 years) and then 2 years of special education.
Ingibjörg Hanna Jónsdóttir, always called Inda, is the head of the maternity ward and the head midwife, and has worked at the hospital for 34 years. She has received a number of children, but what stands out is wonderful colleagues and wonderful clients.
“Many births are memorable, especially those where unexpected events occur, sometimes positive but sometimes difficult. I also find it very rewarding to care for parents who experience loss during pregnancy and in connection with birth,” says Inda.
Name: Ingibjörg Jónsdóttir.
Title: Head midwife.
Birth year: 1960.
Where are you from: Akureyri.
Education: Midwife / Nurse.
How long have you wed at SAkork: Úff, 34 years.
Interest: Outdoor activities, running, mountaineering, skiing and biking both in Iceland and abroad.
What were you in a previous life: Sheep.
A fun fact: I spent the first 2 months of my life in the nursing home of SAk, and I was probably sucked into the midwifery.
How does a normal working day look to you at SAk? The days are all different, so there is no normal working day, which makes the job fun.
What is most fun at work: Communication with clients.
What is most challenging at work: Work in hospitals is often challenging, and it comes with the job.
If you could change something at work, what would it be: Adequate and stable staffing, less time for electronic records. And most importantly a staff party abroad every three years ;-)
Something in the end? A philosophy?
“Live and enjoy”
How many children have you received? No idea!
