Chief Consultant at Akureyri Hospital Takes Active Part in International Cardiology Conference
26th May 2025
Gunnar Þór Gunnarsson, cardiologist at Akureyri Hospital (SAk), was among the active participants at the Nordic-Baltic Congress of Cardiology 2025, held in Copenhagen from May 22–24. This is the largest cardiology conference in the Nordic and Baltic countries, organized every other year, rotating between the participating nations.

In 2023, the conference was held in Reykjavík, and the next one will take place in Gothenburg in spring 2027.
Gunnar Þór, who has served for many years as secretary of the Icelandic Society of Cardiology, was a member of the conference's scientific committee, as in previous years. He was actively involved in reviewing and selecting scientific abstracts and also organized and chaired a symposium on inherited cardiac diseases. The session featured three presentations related to research projects in which Gunnar is directly involved.
The congress serves as an important platform for professional dialogue and collaboration among cardiologists in the region, where the latest research and treatments are presented and discussed.
