atNorth Supports the Friends of Akureyri Hospital

26th October 2026

Last week, atNorth presented a donation of ISK 500,000 to the Friends of Akureyri Hospital (Hollvinir SAk). The donation is linked to the participation of SAk employees in the Akureyri Running Festival this summer, where the hospital was among the workplaces taking part in a special challenge associated with the event.

As a result, SAk was given the opportunity to select a charitable cause for atNorth to support, and the Friends of Akureyri Hospital were chosen.

The purpose of the Friends of Akureyri Hospital Association is to support and strengthen the hospital’s activities. Funding for medical equipment is among the association’s most important projects, and over the years its support has played a significant role in improving facilities and services at SAk.

“We are sincerely grateful to atNorth for this generous donation. It is also very pleasing that the strong participation of SAk employees in the Akureyri Running Festival resulted in this contribution being directed to the Friends of SAk, who have for many years played an important role in supporting the hospital’s operations, including important investments in medical equipment,” says Guðjón Hauksson, Chief Executive Officer of Akureyri Hospital.

“We at the Friends of SAk are extremely grateful both to atNorth for this donation and to SAk employees for the participation that made it possible. Contributions like this enable us to continue supporting important projects at the hospital, particularly the purchase of equipment that will benefit patients and staff for years to come. We would also like to remind people that it is easy to become a Friend of SAk. The annual membership fee is ISK 6,000 and is collected once a year, in May. We encourage everyone who would like to support the hospital’s work to join us,” says Kristín Sigfúsdóttir, Secretary of the Board of the Friends of SAk.
