The National Archives of Iceland (NI) preserves a variety of sources regarding the Icelandic nation’s life and residence. To look at your own family history can be both rewarding and enlightening. It is good to start by looking at some key sources:

  • number of parishioners

  • population registers

  • Priestly services books

Furthermore, you can find more information by looking at loading reports, westbound logs and census toll books, as well as searchable web databases of estates and court records.
