The first item on the agenda was a joint statement by the Nordic national archives, highlighting the role of archives as part of society's digital infrastructure. Unfortunately, the Danish National Archives (Rigsarkivet) was unable to sign the statement. Read more about the joint statement.
The next item was an exchange of experiences concerning the implementation and follow-up of the national archives' strategies. The discussion will continue at the Nordic National Archivists' meeting in Gothenburg in September 2027, which will also be attended by the heads of departments.
The third item concerned Nordic cooperation on criteria for the appraisal of born-digital records. There was support for establishing a Nordic network to address common challenges.
It was also agreed to establish a Nordic expert group on emergency preparedness. The expert group on archiving by design will be discontinued. A decision on whether to establish a separate group on digital user services was postponed until the next meeting.
Finland presented a proposal for a joint project entitled Archival Metadata in the Age of AI. The proposal involves seeking funding to examine how metadata will be affected by digitisation and the potential use of artificial intelligence. A decision was postponed until the next meeting.
The agenda also included planning for the Nordic Archives Days, to be held in Helsinki on 19–20 September 2028, as well as discussions on Nordic hackathons in 2027 and 2028, to be hosted by Finland and Iceland.
