Translation services
Landspítali ensures that patients who do not speak Icelandic or use sign language, receive interpretation and other services according to law.
Landspítali provides interpreters when needed
Staff at Landspítali order an interpreter when needed and make sure that patients receive and understand important information such as:
health and prognoses
the treatment envisaged, risks and benefits
alternatives and the consequences of doing nothing
the possibility of getting another doctor's opinion
Information should be given immediately, so that the patient can make informed decisions about their treatment.
Staff confirm and document the provision of interpretation in the patient's medical record.
An agreement is in place with the International Center (Alþjóðasetur) to ensure access to interpretation services for patients who do not speak Icelandic.
