Vacant position of forestry consultant in West Iceland

New institution built on a solid foundation

An interview with Ágúst Sigurðsson, director of Land and Forest Iceland, appeared in the year's first issue of the Icelandic agricultural biweekly paper Bændablaðið. The interview explores Ágúst’s career as a geneticist and his work in that field, but also as rector of LbhÍ with more. He tates in the interview that the foundational goal of the new institution will be to excel in improving Iceland’s vegetation and soil resources and to promote their sustainable use.

Grants for protection against water erosion

Land and forest Iceland is calling for applications for grants to protect against land erosion caused by inland watercourses. The application deadline is 31 January 2024. (Update 2 February: closed for applications).

Call for talks and posters for the 2024 Annual Icelandic Forestry Conference

The 2024 Annual Icelandic Forestry Conference will be held in the Cultural House Hof in Akureyri on 20-21 March. Applications for talks and posters for the second day of the Conference are now open as well as for posters which will be on display during the event.

Land Reform Fund calls for grant applications

Land and Forest Iceland opened for applications to the Land Reform Fund in the beginning of January 2024. The application deadline was 31 January 2024 and the application form is now closed (2 February).

Land and Forest Iceland starts its operations

Today, the first of January 2024, a new organization takes over the role and obligations of two older organizations that at the same time belong to history, the Icelandic Forest Service (Skógræktin) and the Icelandic Soil Conservation Service (Landgræðslan). We begin a formative period under the leadership of Ágúst Sigurðsson, who holds the position of director of Land and Forest.

Good spirits at the first staff meeting of Land and Forest Iceland

The staff forming by 1 January the new institution, Land and Forest Iceland, joined for a two-day meeting in Selfoss South-Iceland on 21-22 November.
