The Icelandic Forestry Conference is organised in collaboration with Land and Forest Iceland, the Agricultural University of Iceland, the Icelandic Forestry Association, the Icelandic Association of Foresters, and the Farmers’ Association of Iceland. As the name implies, the conference serves as a forum for knowledge exchange and discussion within the forestry sector. It has been held since around the turn of the millennium and rotates between regions from year to year. Last year it was held in Hallormsstaður, and the year before in Akureyri.
Presentations and discussions on a single overarching theme always form the programme for the first day, which this year is “life in the forest”. The theme focuses primarily on biodiversity in forests and on how best to safeguard it, including through quality criteria and standards, research, and knowledge sharing. Furthermore, the theme is also related to forests in conjunction with people's lives and livelihoods.
The second day provides space for all types of topics related to forests and forestry—research, education, innovation, technology, and any other forest-related issues. The programme of the thematic day will be announced in January along with a call for posters and presentations for the second conference day. Information on registration will follow.
