Decisions on pricing
Under the Medicines Act, the Icelandic Medicines Agency is required to determine the maximum price of medicines and reimbursement eligibility upon application by a pharmaceutical company. The Regulation on the Pricing of Medicines and Reimbursement provides that consideration shall be given to the pricing and reimbursement of medicines in other Nordic countries in order to achieve the objectives of the Medicines Act of keeping pharmaceutical expenditure to a minimum.

Classification into reference price groups
Lyfjastofnun raðar samheitalyfjum, líftæknilyfjahliðstæðum og lyfjum með sambærileg meðferðaráhrif í viðmiðunarverðflokka til ákvörðunar greiðsluþátttöku sjúkratrygginga auk lyfja án greiðsluþátttöku. Viðmiðunarverðflokkarnir eru ígildi skiptiskrár. Framkvæmd röðunar er samkvæmt verklagi sem birt er á vef Lyfjastofnunar og upplýsingar birtast í lyfjaverðskrá.
