Regional consultation
Community policing is a cooperation between local police departments. The police work with various partners, including:
social services
child protection services
schools
service centres for victims of violence.
The goal is to engage in a open dialogue about the challenges and to find solutions together.
Coordination of actions
In most cases, declarations of cooperation have been signed, which lays the groundwork for regular cooperation, coordination of actions and the development of platforms supporting the goals of the Child Protection Act and the Children's Act.
Some places have worked on more specialized cooperation such as service centers for victims of violence or the development of specific work processes for specific focus areas. The National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police has supported this development by coordinating and sharing of best practices and educational material.
Domestic violence
All police districts work with social services and child protective services on domestic violence cases, in accordance with the National Commissioner of the Police's operational procedures.
Statistics used
Public's opinion and experiences
When making decisions in regional consultations, statistical information is taken into account. You can see results from regular surveys for each police department on attitudes towards police and experience of crime.
Gender-based violence
The National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police publishes statistics on gender-based violence, sexual offences and domestic violence. Includes homicides and attempted murder.
