Yellow September – Special Focus on Young People

1st September 2026

September will once again be marked as Yellow September this year, as public institutions, non-governmental organizations, and other partners join forces to raise awareness of mental well-being and suicide prevention.

The Healthcare Institution of North Iceland (HSN) supports the important message of the campaign and encourages residents of North Iceland to take part.

In Yellow September 2026, special emphasis will be placed on young people. The aim is to strengthen conversations about mental health, encourage young people to seek support when needed, and remind us all of the importance of showing one another attention, care, and consideration.

Showing Support and Solidarity

A wide range of events and activities will take place throughout the country during September. Schools, workplaces, sports and leisure organizations, municipalities, companies, and the general public are encouraged to participate in their own way.The colour yellow is the symbol of the campaign and represents hope, warmth, and solidarity. People can take part by wearing yellow, decorating or illuminating spaces with yellow, organizing events, or simply using the opportunity to talk about well-being and highlight the importance of seeking and offering support.

Yellow Day will be on 10 September, the International Suicide Prevention Day. HSN encourages both its staff and residents across North Iceland to wear yellow on that day as a sign of support for mental well-being and suicide prevention.

Seeking Help Is a Sign of Strength

We can all experience emotional difficulties, and it is important that no one has to face challenging feelings alone. If you are concerned about your own well-being or that of someone close to you, speak up, listen, and seek help. A conversation can make all the difference.
