A milestone in services for children and families in the region

The Well-being Council of Northwest Iceland was established at a ceremony held at Krúttið in Blönduós on November 27. The formation of the council marks the beginning of an important collaboration between state institutions, municipalities, and other service providers in the region, aimed at ensuring the well-being of children, with their welfare, safety, and equal opportunities at the forefront.
HSN representatives on the Well-being Council are Sigurbjörg Kristrún Snjólfsdóttir, Head Nurse at HSN Sauðárkrókur, as a primary member, and Helga Margrét Jóhannesdóttir, Head Nurse at HSN Blönduós, as an alternate. At the founding event, Ásdís H. Arinbjörnsdóttir, nurse at HSN Blönduós, delivered an address on behalf of the local healthcare services, and Jón Helgi Björnsson, CEO of HSN, signed the cooperation declaration.

According to a report from the Association of Municipalities in Northwest Iceland (SSNV), the municipalities of Húnaþing vestra, Húnabyggð, Skagaströnd, and Skagafjörður have signed an agreement on shared responsibility for the Well-being Council. They have also signed a cooperation declaration with service providers and institutions in the region, including the Health Institution of North Iceland, the Upper Secondary School of Northwest Iceland, the Health Institution of West Iceland, the Northwest Iceland Police Department, the District Commissioner’s Office of Northwest Iceland, regional sports associations, and the local church. The yet-to-be-established Youth Council of Northwest Iceland will also have a representative on the Well-being Council.

In the new year, the Well-being Council will hold its first meeting and begin work on developing a four-year action plan for Northwest Iceland.
The establishment of the Well-being Council of Northwest Iceland marks a turning point in services for children and families. Through joint efforts, strong collaboration, and clear accountability, the municipalities and institutions of the region will ensure that children in Northwest Iceland have the opportunity to thrive in a safe, nurturing, and encouraging environment.
