23rd September 2026

We are pleased to announce two new appointments at HSN in Akureyri.

Valur Helgi Kristinsson has been permanently appointed as Chief Medical Officer at HSN in Akureyri following an open recruitment process. He has served in the position since January 2026.

Valur is a specialist in Family Medicine. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Iceland in 2000 and completed his specialist training in Family Medicine in Húsavík and Örebro, Sweden, in 2007. Following his training, he worked as a family physician in Lund, Sweden.

Valur is very familiar with HSN, having worked at the Akureyri Primary Health Care Centre since 2009, with the exception of a brief period in 2024 when he worked as a family physician and occupational health physician at Heilsuvernd.

Arna Reynisdóttir, a specialist in Family Medicine, has been appointed Assistant Chief Medical Officer at HSN in Akureyri. Arna completed two years of pharmacy studies at the University of Iceland before deciding to pursue a degree in medicine. She graduated from the University of Debrecen in Hungary in 2017 and subsequently returned to her hometown of Akureyri.

She completed her internship training (formerly known as candidacy training) at Akureyri Hospital and HSN in Akureyri during 2017 and 2018. She then worked for just over a year in the Emergency Department at Akureyri Hospital. Arna has been employed by HSN in Akureyri since 2020.

We warmly congratulate Valur and Arna on their appointments.
