Services of the Children and Adolescent Psychiatric Team of the Akureyri Hospital is transferred to the Healthcare Institution of North Iceland
3rd July 2024
Services provided by the Children and Adolescent Psychiatric Team (BUG) at the Akureyri Hospital (SAk) will be transferred to the Healthcare Institution of North Iceland (HSN) from October 1st.
The purpose of this transfer is to strengthen services and continuity in mental health services for children and young people in the north and east of Iceland, now the services will be at HSN.
In recent years, HSN’s psychosocial services have been developed in a systematic manner. Today, the service is run by a strong team of professionals who serve both children and adults in North Iceland.
It is appropriate to reassure that SAk will continue to provide emergency services for children and adolescents in the area and will establish a procedure for cooperation for emergency cases that come directly to SAk.
Preparations for the transfer have already begun and are in such a way that there will be no interruption in mental health services for children and young people in the north and east of Iceland.
