Hilda holds a B.Sc. degree in nursing, a diploma in management from the University of Akureyri and is currently studying for a Masters degree in management from the same school.

Hilda has a long and successful experience in the healthcare industry, covering about twenty years, most of which she has worked as a nurse at the Akureyri hospital and at the National University Hospital. Hilda has also worked as project manager for electronic medical records systems, as a quality assurance officer, deputy department manager and division manager in the surgical department. Hilda has also taken on projects under the Directorate of Health as well as teaching at the University of Akureyri.
