HSN introduces an innovation in health-promoting services

RetinaRisk eye screening has been implemented at HSN, resulting in significant cost savings for individuals and the healthcare system, while also providing great convenience for a large group of our clients.

HSN has entered into a partnership with the Icelandic software company RetinaRisk to offer regular eye screenings for people with diabetes, utilizing artificial intelligence. The solution enables screenings to be carried out at local healthcare centers instead of requiring patients to travel to Reykjavík for eye examinations.
It is estimated that the use of RetinaRisk will reduce the average cost of eye screening by approximately 99%, while also eliminating hundreds of patient journeys each year. This improves access to services and simplifies follow-up care for individuals with diabetes.
The RetinaRisk solution has already been successfully implemented at the Healthcare Institution of Suðurnes (HSS), and residents of North Iceland now have the opportunity to benefit from the same innovation.

“This collaboration with HSN marks a major step forward in bringing healthcare services closer to the people. We know that traveling to the capital is both time-consuming and costly for patients, and this solution allows us to save substantial resources for both individuals and the healthcare system. Most importantly, it’s about improving the quality of life for people with diabetes by making screening more accessible,” says Ægir Þór Steinarsson, CEO of RetinaRisk.
“We are proud to follow in the footsteps of this innovation and implement a solution that has already proven successful in Suðurnes. By leveraging artificial intelligence, we ensure that residents in North Iceland have the same access to quality healthcare as others across the country—without the burden of long and difficult travel. This is a major benefit for our community,” says Guðrún Dóra Clarke, Medical Director at HSN.
