HSN employs 12 midwives, from Blönduós in the west to Þórshöfn in the east. The work of midwives demands great expertise and responsibility and they perform many tasks, including prenatal care, infant care and other tasks. We congratulate the midwives at HSN and around the country on their day – thank you for your amazing and important work.

It should be noted that the Icelandic Midwives’ Association has just held a conference in Akureyri, which brought together midwives from all over the country, but you can read more about the conference in a news article at Akureyri.net.

It is also worth mentioning that the word “ljósmóðir” the icelandic word for midwife was chosen the most beautiful word in the Icelandic language in 2013.
