Akureyri Clinic Expands – Two New Nurses Hired

30th May 2025

The Healthcare Institution of North Iceland (HSN) has hired two new nurses for the Akureyri Clinic: Ingibjörg Ösp Ingólfsdóttir and Þórdís Gísladóttir. The Akureyri Clinic is a diagnostic and advisory center for individuals with ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) or long-term symptoms of Covid.

Ingibjörg Ösp graduated with a nursing degree from the University of Akureyri in 2005, earned a master’s degree in Development Studies in 2011 from the University of Iceland, a diploma in Applied Gender Studies in 2014, and an MPH in Public Health Sciences in 2024, also from the University of Iceland.

Ingibjörg worked primarily in the pediatric ward at Akureyri Hospital from 2005 to 2025, with some breaks. Her experience includes home nursing at Cetric Care in Oslo in 2013, working at Rjóðrið at the National University Hospital in 2016–2017, serving as a delegate and nurse for the Red Cross in Bangladesh in 2018, and conducting sleep apnea research among children in 2023–2024. Since 2024, she has worked as a school nurse for HSN and will continue part-time in that role alongside her work at the Akureyri Clinic.

Þórdís Gísladóttir graduated with a BSc in Psychology from Reykjavík University in 2015, a nursing degree from the University of Akureyri in 2020, and a diploma in Health Services Management in 2021 from the same university. From 2020 to 2025, Þórdís has worked as a nurse and team leader in home nursing relief services for the Healthcare Institution of North Iceland.

The Akureyri Clinic is a collaborative project between the Healthcare Institution of North Iceland and Akureyri Hospital and serves as the national coordinating body for the diagnosis and care of ME patients. The clinic employs nine consultants and specialists.

We are very grateful for this strong addition and warmly welcome Ingibjörg and Þórdís to the team.
