All 5 Green steps have now been completed by The Health Directorate of East Iceland, first of all iclandic healthcare facilities. The characteristics of the HSA is the social power of the workplace, but they have all adopted and adopted environmentally friendly actions. The actions of the Green Steps address, e.g., reduced waste, waste sorting, procurement of environmentally certified and organic products and environmental education for staff.
We all need to play a part in reducing our negative impact on the environment and healthcare institutions can indeed have a major impact there, both in their daily operations and not in raising awareness for staff, patients and family members.
The Green Steps initiative is for government agencies that want to reduce negative environmental impacts from their operations and enhance the environmental awareness of their employees. Participation in Green Steps will give institutions an opportunity to systematically implement strong environmental work under the guidance of experts from the Environmental Protection Agency. Green Steps activities are divided into 7 categories covering the main environmental aspects of ordinary office operations. Steps 1-4 include actions in all these categories, but the fifth step addresses the actions that need to be implemented to build up an environmental management system at the organisation in question.
