A course for children with anxiety in Egilsstaðir

The Health Care Centre in Egilsstaðir will offer a course for parents of 5 - 12 year old children who have anxiety. The aim of the course is to teach parents about methods of cognitive behavioral therapy and to encourage parents to use the methods with their child to work on anxiety, strengthen courage and self-confidence. Common anxiety symptoms that children show are fear of sleeping alone, walking alone, fear of dogs or fear of something happening to their parents. The course will start on Wednesday 23 October 2024, 13:00 - 15:00 in Giljasal in the Health Care Centre in Egilsstaðir.
The course consists of 5 hours over a 6 week period, first 4 hours, then one week break, i.e. Wednesday 20.11.24 and then the 5th and last time 27.11.24, as well as follow-up interviews that will take place in January 2025.
All the courses are based on the book “Help fyrir kvíðandi börn” and are presented with homework for parents, which includes a lot of reading and therefore it is important that parents commit to this treatment during the treatment period and purchase the book in advance, which is available in most online stores.

The course is only for parents, but children are welcome to attend the follow-up class at the end. It is preferable that both parents attend the class when possible.
The course fee is 2500 ISK and an account is sent to the local bank after the course.
The instructors will be psychologist Kolbjörg Benediktsdóttir and physical therapist Erla Jónsdóttir at HSA.
Registration is by e-mail, you can register until 17 October. When registering, questionnaires are sent out that assess the child's anxiety and must be answered and sent back.
