Mental health team for neurodevelopmental disorders

Services
The team’s target group includes individuals aged 18 and older with severe and/or complex neurodevelopmental disorders, primarily intellectual disability.
Some individuals in this group also have autism in addition to other co-occurring health conditions related to disability, such as epilepsy, cerebral palsy (CP), and/or physical impairments. In addition, a clinical mental health disorder and/or challenging behavior must be present.
The team does not provide initial diagnostic assessments for suspected autism or related conditions.
The service is multidisciplinary and is provided through home visits and appointments at the team’s facilities.
The team:
Strengthens individual capacities to support recovery and well-being.
Provides education on achieving balance in everyday life.
Enhances understanding, resilience, and the ability to cope with mental health challenges.
Services offered include:
Assessment of mental well-being and physical health.
Review and evaluation of medication treatment.
Treatment, education, and support for the individual, their family, and/or support persons.
Support to increase social participation and meaningful engagement in daily life.
Guidance on where to access additional support or educational resources.
The goals of the team’s services are to:
Promote and maintain recovery and functional abilities.
Ensure care centered on the individual.
Ensure continuity and integration of treatment.
Strengthen the individual’s psychological and social well-being.
Encourage self-care and self-respect.
Support individuals in living meaningful and fulfilling lives.
Provide support and guidance to family members and to staff within municipal support services.
The team is based on interdisciplinary collaboration. The composition of professional disciplines may vary, but typically includes a behavior analyst, psychiatrist, family physician, nurse, occupational therapist, psychologist, and developmental therapist.
Emphasis is placed on close communication and cooperation with various institutions, service and support providers, and non-governmental organizations.
