The Westman Islands services applicants for international protection

The agreement will allow the Westman Islands to serve up to 30 applicants on behalf of the Directorate of Labour.
Gísli Davíð Karlsson f.h. of the Directorate of Labour and Íris Róbertsdóttir, Mayor of the Westman Islands signed an agreement yesterday on services for applicants for international protection.
The agreement will allow the Westman Islands to serve up to 30 applicants on behalf of the Directorate of Labour. The first applicants for international protection moved to the Westman Islands in February. The agreement will expire in 2023.
A co-ordinated agreement on the reception of refugees has also been signed between the Westman Islands, the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Labour and the Multicultural Centre, which ensures continued services for applicants for international protection.
The coordinated reception of refugees includes people who have been granted international protection or residence permits on humanitarian grounds in Iceland.
