Services for applicants for international protection have been transferred to the Directorate of Labour
8th September 2022
Services for applicants for international protection have been transferred from the Directorate of Immigration to the Directorate of Labour. The changes took effect on July 1st.
During the transfer, 13 employees moved from the Directorate of Immigration to the Directorate of Labour. The goal of the transfer is to ensure continuity in the provision of services and that knowledge and experience remains in place in this regard. The infrastructure of the Directorate of Labour will be useful in the project, as the institution has extensive experience in services to individuals in various situations, as well as being a leader in terms of information technology, finance, data analysis, job mediation and consultancy.
The changes are in accordance with the Presidential Decree on the division of government affairs between ministries in the Icelandic Administrative Council, which took effect on 1 February 2022. Services for applicants for international protection, which previously came under the Ministry of Justice, were transferred to the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Labour Market.
