The Directorate of Health will be closed all day on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. The office will be open as usual between Christmas and New Year's, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Changes in the Role of the Medical Director of Health

Willum Þór Þórsson, Minister of Health, has accepted Alma D. Möller's request to step down from her position as Medical Director of Health. Alma’s resignation takes effect on December 10, 2024.

The Prize projects of the Prevention Day 2024 – students in Grunnskólinn in Borgarnes and Framhaldsskólinn in Húsavík received prizes

On Saturday, December 7th, a reception took place at Bessastaðir, where Halla Tómasdóttir, the President of Iceland, presented awards for the projects associated with the Prevention Day 2024. During the event, the President and Dóra Guðrún Guðmundsdóttir, the Head of Public Health at the Directorate of Health, delivered speeches discussing the significance of the Prevention Day and the Riddarar kærleikans (Knights of Love).

World AIDS Day is observed annually on 1 December to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS, commemorate those who have lost their lives to the disease, and fight stigma and discrimination faced by people living with HIV.

Report on Medical Imaging in Iceland

The Directorate of Health has published a report on medical imaging in Iceland in the years 2014-2023. The report details the frequency of MRI and CT examinations in 2014-2023, but the extent of such examinations has increased considerably during the period.
