The event drew a large crowd and was a great success. It featured speeches, a reflection, and musical performances. The Pieta Association also announced its new four-digit phone number, 1799. Numerous associations and institutions working in mental health promotion and suicide prevention set up information stands to present their activities.

The Lífsbrú Award

This year marks the third presentation of the Lífsbrú – Centre for Suicide Prevention award. The award recognises a significant contribution to suicide prevention in Iceland, advances knowledge in this field, and promotes the nation's improved health and well-being.

The recipients of the 2026 award are:

  • Högni Óskarsson, psychiatrist – in the individual category

  • Hugarafl – in the team category

For years, psychiatrist Högni Óskarsson has been a key figure in advancing knowledge and research on suicide prevention in Iceland and a tireless advocate for establishing Lífsbrú, a platform that coordinates suicide-prevention efforts in the country.

Hugarafl receives the award for its important work. Hugarafl is a community of peers who support one another, share experiences, and promote mental health, guided by the principles of respect and hope.
