MEMM
What is MEMM?
MEMM is a development project that supports the education and inclusion of children and young people with diverse language and cultural backgrounds in Icelandic schools and after-school programs.
The project is carried out in close cooperation with municipalities, schools, and professionals all over Iceland. Its goal is to develop effective ways to welcome, teach, and support students from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
MEMM is led by the Ministry of Education and Children, and the project coordinator is Fríða B. Jónsdóttir.
As part of the project, the Language and Literacy Centre, a specialist team focusing on language and literacy for preschool and compulsory school children, has become part of the Directorate of Education and School Services. The Directorate has also increased the number of teaching consultants and bridge-builders, and a MEMM team for upper secondary schools is now active.
If you have questions or would like to request support, you can email memm@mms.is.
The MEMM website is designed for teachers and staff working in schools and after-school programs.
