This course on work safety is for security staff and security staff. This also works for those who are interested in such matters as employment protection and want to improve their working environment.

The course is paid for by the employer in accordance with law.

When is the course taught?

Courses are offered monthly according to advertised schedules.

Organisation of studies

The course is an online course in collaboration with the Icelandic Centre for Education Studies.

The course is accessible to students for two weeks. It takes approximately twelve hours to go through the course. It can be divided up at will and taken at a time that suits each individual.

It is encouraged that the course is taken during working hours.

The study materials will be accessible to participants at the beginning of the course.

Subject matter

All major policy areas concerning work environment are addressed:

• Noise, lighting, indoor air and ventilation

• Substances and chemical hazards

• Safety of machinery and equipment

• Physical risk factors

• Social and mental risk factors

• Health protection at work

• Work accidents and accident prevention

• Use of personal protective equipment

A plan for safety and health at the workplace is discussed.

An assessment of risk and a health protection plan is provided, and the plan includes a prevention plan, policy and response plan for bullying, harassment and violence in the workplace.

Acts on working environment, health and safety at work are introduced and rules established in accordance with them.

Tests

A few questions need to be answered at the end of each chapter in order to proceed with the material.
