NordForsk supports Nordic research cooperation and cooperation on research infrastructure. NordForsk's aim is to promote high-quality research that is internationally competitive and to create Nordic added value through cross-border cooperation.

Who is it for?

NordForsk funds and supports research projects and research infrastructure involving cooperation between the Nordic countries and, where appropriate, with the Baltic states and other countries. Nordic added value is a fundamental element of NordForsk's activities. This means that cooperation between the Nordic countries should yield greater benefits, higher quality or wider impact than could be achieved by a project carried out within a single country.

Grants and applications

NordForsk regularly invites applications for research programmes and collaborative projects. There are no fixed annual application deadlines; instead, new calls are published as research programmes and projects are launched. Eligibility requirements, international cooperation requirements, grant amounts and other provisions vary from call to call and are set out in each call announcement.

Important for Icelandic applicants

Iceland does not automatically participate in all NordForsk calls. Iceland's participation in individual programmes and calls depends on funding being secured by the Icelandic government. Icelandic applicants must therefore always make sure that Iceland is among the participating countries in the relevant call before preparing an application.

More information

Information on open calls, participating countries and application deadlines is published on the NordForsk website and by Rannís.
