Wishes SAk to remain a good specialty hospital with strong clinical and research professionals

Dr. Árún K. Sigurðardóttir will speak in honor of the Scientific Day.

Dr. Árún K. Sigurðardóttir gives a speech on Science Day.

The Science Day of the Institute of Health Sciences at UNAK and SAk will take place on Thursday, September 19 between 9 and 16 in the meeting room Kjarni on the new connection port of SAk on the 3rd floor and in a stream.

The honorary plaque this time will be presented by Dr. Árún K. Sigurðardóttir, Professor of Nursing at the University of Iceland and an expert in diabetes and chronic diseases.

“The lecture will focus on my work at the Akureyri Hospital. I started working there in 1991, then as an anesthesiologist. Then I changed fields and became a nurse for individuals with diabetes and chronic diseases. I worked at the endocrine ward at SAk from its inception in 2007 to 2017, and most recently at the Department of Education and Science, alongside my work at the University of Akureyri,” Árún says.

With the establishment of the Department of Education and Science, the emphasis on scientific work at SAk increased and the department now celebrates the 16th Scientific Day.

“I will explain how the work at HA and SAk is connected through mentoring of masters students and research projects. Hopefully, it will explain how the cooperation between SAk and HA was conducted in my case. Looking back, I believe that within SAk the establishment of the Department of Education and Science and specialized outpatient wards was generally a good thing. This greatly improved the service to clients, as they had the opportunity to use better treatment and follow-up,” Árún concludes.

The honorary speech will be on the agenda for the Science Day on 19 September at 9:10.
