At HSU, Vignir leads a team of nurses and physicians who have developed the project Kraftmiklir Krakkar, which focuses on interdisciplinary lifestyle treatment and support for children with obesity and their families. The research phase of the project has now been completed, and further results are expected in the coming months. The implementation of the protocol and continued lifestyle treatment has already begun at HSU’s primary care centers.

Childhood obesity and related comorbidities are a pressing challenge within the healthcare system. The prevalence has increased over recent decades, making it clear that more professionals need to be involved in providing services for children with obesity and their families, Vignir says when asked about the importance of presenting the project in this forum.

He adds that it is a great honor to be invited to present the project at the National Health Assembly; the event provides a platform where they can reach many of those involved in shaping health policy. The hope is that this will lead to further collaboration, dialogue, and broader implementation beyond HSU.

The reception at the assembly was very positive, and the project was well received. According to Vignir, everyone agreed on the importance of ensuring the best possible health for children, and that initiatives such as Kraftmiklir Krakkar are an important step toward strengthening children’s health for the future.
