The Wellbeing Council of Northeast Iceland and the Steering Group for the Wellbeing Legislation at SAk

The first meeting of the Wellbeing Council of Northeast Iceland was held on December 3. SAk’s representative on the council is Snæbjörn Ómar Guðjónsson, specialist in psychiatric nursing, with Ingunn Eir Eyjólfsdóttir, social worker, as his alternate. At the first meeting, the organizational structure of the Wellbeing Council, a communications charter, and rules of procedure were approved.

The role of the Wellbeing Council is to develop a four-year action plan based on the government’s policy on child wellbeing, the outcomes of the Wellbeing Assembly, and a situational analysis of Northeast Iceland. The plan is to reflect regional challenges and opportunities and define clear objectives, actions, timelines, performance indicators, and responsible parties.

Implementation at SAk

The steering group for the implementation of the Child Wellbeing Act will begin preparations for implementation at SAk in January 2026. In addition to Snæbjörn and Ingunn, the steering group includes Áslaug Felixdóttir, project manager for educational affairs, and Sigríður Ásta Hauksdóttir, family therapist. The wellbeing liaisons at SAk are Halldóra Margrét Bjarnadóttir, pediatric ward nurse, and Thelma Eyfjörð Jónsdóttir, social worker.
