A major milestone in digitizing driving learning is now being achieved with the activation of the digital driving study book by the Icelandic Transportation Authority. Within this milestone, driving instructors can confirm practical driving hours for general driving rights electronically through Ísland.is. Therefore, in the near future, driving students will be able to follow the progress of their driving studies on Ísland.is My Pages. Driving students will also not have to keep a special driving study book, destined to get lost and forgotten, as it will soon be available in digital form.

With a digital driving study book, driving students will have access to basic information about their study, an overview of practical driving times, driving schools, and driving tests at one location.

The digital driving study aims to simplify the process from application to issuing a driving license to a greater extent, primarily for driving students but also for those involved in driving studies.

A digital driving study book is part of a large collaboration project between the Ministry of Infrastructure, Icelandic Transportation, the District Commissioners, the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police, and Digital Iceland around the Icelandic Driving Learning Process, making it digital from A-Ö.

The project's previous phases were digitizing the application for study authorization, confirmation of the driving assessment, and application for a full license, all presented earlier this year. Work will continue implementing the driving school system to enable them to electronically confirm the completion of driving schools in a digital driving study book. Work is also ongoing on preparations for electronic examination for theoretical driving tests, and the aim is to be implemented in 2023.
