Special training positions for doctors

Special education in medicine in Iceland has developed rapidly in recent years. Special education is now provided in most basic medical disciplines in Iceland in accordance with international quality standards.

Special training mostly takes place at Landspítali (LSH), but also at the Akureyri Hospital in most subjects. If cooperation has been confirmed between LSH and SAk for specialized training in the relevant specialty, it is assumed that specialized training doctors will work in both locations. The special studies advertised here are the only special study paths for the relevant subjects in Iceland that have been approved by the assessment and qualification committee in accordance with regulation 856/2023. Special studies comply with the approved target description of the relevant subject and follow a high-quality evaluation and supervision system by trained supervisors.

Doctoral studies are possible in parallel with clinical specialization. If there is an approved research plan for a doctoral program, the applicant can apply for such a position. At a minimum, it would be about 50% employment with LSH or by agreement and clinical specialization extended as much as possible and in accordance with regulation 856/2023. Requests for this should be stated separately in the comments to the application and in the cover letter. The approved research plan for the doctoral program must be included with the application.
