Text-to-speech web reader on Ísland.is
The goal of this project was to translate all material on Ísland.is into English as efficiently as possible.
About the project
It was decided to collaborate with Miðeind and use the translation model they have been developing and use it to automatically translate articles for Island.is.
As a follow-up to the project, it was decided to also send corrected translations back to the Center with a view to further developing their model.
The challenge was mainly that little experience had been gained in using the model, so the project team had to follow somewhat unknown paths. There was also a need to implement functionality on top of a system that was already in use, ie. content management system and let the two play well together.
The benefit is that translators get machine-translated text that they can then use when translating material, within the same environment. This can save translators a lot of work and time. The final result of the translation is then sent back to improve the speed and quality of the mechanical translations.
The project is carried out by the development teams Parallel ráðgjöf, Kosmos & Kaos and Miðeind in collaboration with Stafrænt Ísland.
