Sign Language Interpreter – Permanent Position

The Communication Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing People (SHH) is seeking applications for a permanent full-time Sign Language Interpreter position.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Sign language interpreters are part of SHH's Interpreting Services Division. Their primary responsibilities include interpreting and translation involving Icelandic Sign Language. In addition, interpreters participate in a variety of other projects and tasks within the scope of the institution's activities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Sign Language Studies and Sign Language Interpreting.

  • Excellent proficiency in Icelandic Sign Language.

  • Excellent command of spoken and written Icelandic.

  • Good command of English is desirable.

  • Valid driver's license is preferred.

  • Previous experience in sign language interpreting is an advantage.

  • Initiative and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, service orientation, punctuality, and good organizational abilities.

Salary is determined in accordance with the collective agreement between the Icelandic Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs and Viska – The Union of Professionals.Applications must include:

    Full-time (100%) daytime position, with opportunities for demand-based overtime during evenings and weekends.

  • Part-time employment may also be considered.
