Sign Language Interpreter – Permanent Position

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Sign language interpreters are part of SHH's Interpreting Services Division. Their primary responsibilities include interpreting and translation involving Icelandic Sign Language. In addition, interpreters participate in a variety of other projects and tasks within the scope of the institution's activities as assigned.

Qualifications

• University degree in Sign Language Studies and Sign Language Interpreting.

• Excellent proficiency in Icelandic Sign Language.

• Excellent command of spoken and written Icelandic.

• Good command of English is desirable.

• Valid driver's license is preferred.

• Previous experience in sign language interpreting is an advantage.

• Initiative and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, service orientation, punctuality, and good organizational abilities.

The Communication Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing People (SHH) is the national language center for Icelandic Sign Language and serves the Icelandic signing community. Salary is determined in accordance with the collective agreement between the Icelandic Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs and Viska – The Union of Professionals.Applications must include:
