Prosperity in Primary Healthcare: Working Together for Children and Families
At the Prosperity Day conference held at Hof Cultural Centre on 4 September, Hafdís Erla Jóhannsdóttir Rist, social worker, and Ragnheiður Diljá Gunnarsdóttir, midwife at Akureyri Primary Healthcare in Sunnuhlíð, delivered a presentation on the role of Prosperity Coordinators within primary healthcare.

Prosperity Day provides a forum for dialogue and the sharing of experiences related to child well-being and development. The event focuses on integrated services, cross-sector collaboration, and strengthening support for children and families in the region. A Prosperity Coordinator is a professional who helps families navigate the service system, ensuring that children receive the right support at the right time.
The presentation explored how the Prosperity Framework can simplify the journey of children and families through the service system. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of collaboration among different service providers, including primary healthcare services, schools, preschools, and other professionals. The objective is to ensure that support is coordinated and tailored to the needs of each child and their family.
The role of a Prosperity Coordinator may include providing guidance and information, assessing service needs, following up on support measures, and connecting families with appropriate resources and services. The integration of services is based on the family's consent and aims to create continuity of care while reducing the need for parents to coordinate communication between multiple service providers themselves.
The key message of the presentation was clear: Prosperity is built on collaboration, with the child and family at the centre. By listening, responding early, and providing the right support at the right time, it is often possible to prevent challenges from becoming more serious and complex in the future.
