Production of Driver’s Licenses Moves to Iceland
The production of driver’s licenses has begun at Registers Iceland. For over a decade, Icelandic driver’s licenses have been produced in Hungary. However, the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police, District Commissioners, and Registers Iceland have collaborated to relocate the production to Iceland.

This transition significantly improves services for the public, as the average waiting time for a driver’s license is reduced from three weeks to just one week. Additionally, communication channels are shortened, and processes become simpler. Many people have been waiting for their licenses during this transition, but most are expected to receive them by the end of the month.
The application process and information services for driver’s licenses in Iceland remain unchanged and continue to be handled by District Commissioners. This project is a great example of how different institutions can collaborate to enhance services, improve security, and take environmentally friendly steps.
