On diving oversight
Oversight over diving activities is in the hands of the Icelandic Transport Authority and the Icelandic Coast Guard, but the agencies have now signed a service agreement whereby the Icelandic Coast Guard will conduct on-site supervision of diving on behalf of the Icelandic Transport Authority.
In order to promote safety in diving, clear rules apply to the activity in Act No. 81/2018 on diving and in Regulation No. 535/2001 on diving. Among other things, these stipulate requirements for those who practice diving or teach it, as well as for equipment used in diving.
As stated in a news release from the Icelandic Transport Authority a year ago, the Icelandic Transport Authority and the Icelandic Coast Guard have the authority to supervise diving activities and the agencies decided to strengthen on-site supervision.

Parties engaged in commercial diving can expect an announcement from the Icelandic Coast Guard about supervision in the coming months. A supervision fee will be charged in accordance with applicable authorities.
