Benefits of the Digital Mailbox
The digital mailbox of Ísland.is is already delivering benefits, despite being barely halfway through its implementation in the public sector. Each year, about 8.5 million documents are sent to the mailbox. It can be assumed that the cost of sending that many paper letters through actual mailslot is over a billion ISK. Instead, the fixed operating costs of the Digital Mailbox is about one and a half million ISK. This means that the financial benefits of a digital mailbox are considerable.
This benefit has proved to be an incentive for public entities and a necessary tool in the present economic situation.
