New System for the Processing of Exemptions
The Icelandic Transport Authority has implemented a new electronic system for the processing of exemptions. The application process remains largely unchanged; however, applicants are advised to familiarise themselves with the following changes introduced with the new system.
Key changes
Electronic login is now required and is carried out via Ísland.is.
The system is integrated with the vehicle register, and it is therefore only possible to apply for an exemption for one vehicle or one vehicle combination at a time.
When applying for a weight exemption, applicants must enter the axle spacing in the application.
Applicants are required to provide a clear and detailed route description from the point of departure to the destination.
In all other respects, the processing of exemptions remains unchanged, and approved exemptions will continue to be sent by email.
