Accompanying them were midwives specializing in prenatal screening from Landspítali, from the rural regions of the country, as well as specialists from dozens of other countries. The aim of the conference was to present and discuss the latest knowledge and developments in fetal medicine. The conference was organized by the Fetal Medicine Foundation in London and is held once a year. More than 1,000 participants attended the conference, including specialists, physicians, and midwives working in fetal screening (fetal medicine) from 96 countries.
In this field, it is considered essential to closely monitor new developments and to harmonize clinical practice.
Kristín Rut from the Prenatal Diagnostics Department at Landspítali, with whom Sigurlinn is in regular contact, emphasized the importance of participation. In addition, obstetricians from the ultrasound department at Landspítali were among the participants, Sigurlinn said about the trip.
Sigurlinn further emphasized that it is extremely important for midwives, along with other HSU staff, to regularly pursue continuing education. Among the topics covered at the conference was the latest generation of ultrasound equipment, where artificial intelligence has been incorporated into the devices to assist with measurements and diagnostics.
Last year, approximately 1,000 individuals visited HSU for prenatal screening.
