Knowledge that transforms healthcare at the SAk and HA Science Day

The programme will take place in Kjarni on the third floor of Akureyri Hospital (SAk). It will also be available to watch on Teams.

Guðjón Hauksson, CEO of SAk, will open Science Day at 10:00 a.m. A range of presentations will follow, reflecting the research, development and innovation taking place at SAk and its partner institutions.

“Strong research and development are essential if we are to keep improving healthcare. Science Day highlights the breadth of expertise at SAk and the importance of the hospital’s collaboration with the University of Akureyri and other institutions,” says Guðjón Hauksson, CEO of SAk.

Topics include a study of sleep in children, diagnostic imaging for young people following serious accidents, and support for young people after a suicide. The programme will also cover the design and implementation of a digital health solution for people with diabetes.

After lunch, the focus will turn to healthcare in rural areas and the Arctic. Presentations will address the role of nurses in safe and sustainable healthcare, the experiences of nurses who coordinate shifts at rural hospitals, and an international course in health assessment and simulation-based teaching.

“Science Day is an important opportunity to share new knowledge, strengthen dialogue and collaboration between academia and healthcare, and show how research and innovation can improve patient care,” says Laufey Hrólfsdóttir, Head of SAk’s Education and Research Department.

The day will end with coffee and cake from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. There will also be presentations on master’s, specialist and doctoral programmes, giving staff an opportunity to explore the study options.
